  • The article examines a dispute between periodical publishers and high technology industry company Apple Inc. over the latter firm's plan to allow publishers to sell subscriptions to electronic versions of their periodicals for users of the iPad tablet computer. Apple has demanded a 30 percent share of subscription revenue and will not allow publishers to collect marketing research data on subscribers. A split among publishing companies, some of which have agreed to these terms, is discussed.
