Banks and their sovereigns: in each other's debt.

  • Periodical
  • Euroweek. 10/1/2010 Supplement, p12-15. 4p. 5 Color Photographs, 2 Graphs.
  • The article presents a discussion on whether banks can detach themselves from the use of sovereign credit default swaps (CDS). It was in the summer of 2007 that the price of bank liquidity was based on CDS levels. It is noted that global financial crisis of 2008 has classified sovereign bonds as more of a liability than a safety net. Bank stress tests revealed the interdependence between bank bond and sovereign markets.
