Legislative Research Reports.

  • Academic Journal
  • Legislative Studies Quarterly. Feb2005, Vol. 30 Issue 1, p143-152. 10p.
  • This article presents abstracts of papers presented at the 2004 Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association held in Chicago. Using a roll-call based measure of senators' ideologies and citizen assessments of senators' ideologies, the authors offer three contributions to research on substantive representation. One of the studies engages the debate over descriptive representation by attempting to isolate the conditions in which the presence of a descriptive representative will influence the policy process and the factors that contribute to variation in that influence.
