Minority Report.

  • Periodical
  • New Republic. 5/13/2010, Vol. 241 Issue 7, p16-21. 6p.
  • The article discusses the internal conflict within the group Human Rights Watch (HRW) over how it should report on human rights issues in Israel. HRW was founded in the 1970's and the group monitors human rights abuses all over the world. In September 2000 fissures within the organization's leadership started to develop when HRW's board voted to insist that any peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians include the right of return. Members of HRW's leadership, including Sid Sheinberg, believed that the right of return would undermine the peace negotiations. The founder of HRW, Robert Bernstein, alleged that his organization had turned against Israel and that its human rights reporting had become biased and politicized.
