Not enough: human rights in an unequal world.

  • The relative impotence of human rights in the face of global poverty and inequality merits far greater attention than it has received in human rights practice, policy and scholarship. In particular, Moyn criticizes the willingness of the human rights movement to focus on achieving some basic standard of sufficiency in economic and social well-being, rather than equality. This weakness within the global pursuit of international human rights is no less salient than the book's critique of the moral, social and economic limits of human rights aspirations which do not address inequality.
