A conference paper discussing why Penelope's, wife of Greek leader Odysseus, individual virtues are necessary for Odysseus's survival in island Ithaka and political success of her family, is presented, which will be delivered at the American Political Science Association's 2014 annual meeting in August 2014. Topics discussed include political authority of Penelope, political study of Penelope, and gender-transcending model of political efficacy and private virtue.
